  • International Geography Olympiad

    Australia wins Geography Gold at International Geography Olympiad

    Congratulations to the four young Australian geography students who have come FIRST at the 13th International Geography Olympiad held in Beijing from Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st August.

    The four-member Australian team and their achievement are:

    Clair Yung, Narrabundah College, ACT - Gold medal and overall second in the world

    Andreas Orsmond, Sydney Grammar School, NSW - Gold medal and overall fifth in the world

    Deepan Kumar, Narrabundah College, ACT - Silver medal

    Georgia Worner, Loreto College – Kirribilli, NSW - Bronze medal

    The four-member Australian Team which compete at the International Geography Olympiad is selected from participants of the previous year’s Geography’s Big Week Out. Sixteen top performing Year 11 geography students, one female and one male from each Australian State and combined Territories who have completed the Australian Geography Competition are invited to participate in the Geography’s Big Week Out.
